Tenants FAQs

Who is eligible for assistance from Lettings First

To receive assistance from Lettings First, you have to be referred to us by Lambeth Council's Housing Service Unit.  We are unable to assist any other tenants, at this time.

If I move from one property to another, do I have to return my deposit

No.  The deposit paid to your landlord is your deposit.  This money can be used to place as a deposit on further accommodation of your choice.  If however, you breach your tenancy agreement this deposit can be withheld by your landlord to make repairs on the property or to recover lost rent.

Do I have to find a property to rent within Lambeth

No.  You decide where you wish to live and this does not need to be in the borough of Lambeth

Do I have to stay in the property for a fixed period of time

Yes.  When you sign an assured shorthold tenancy, it is an agreement between yourself and the landlord.  The usual duration of an assured shorthold tenancy is 6 - 12 months.  If you break this agreement, your landlord will withhold your deposit and could take you to court to recover any costs

Are all properties furnished

No.  The majority of property to rent is furnished or part furnished however, some landlords do let property unfurnished
